Hi, I'm Don Soss. I've been an insurance professional since 1984 and I am the owner of Soss & Associates Inc. where we collaborate with clients to increase their confidence in overall financial wellbeing.
Our goal as an agency is to help people and businesses plan for the unexpected to protect their future. We customize each risk management plan by getting to know our clients; the things they value; and, as applicable, their business’ goals and industry-specific needs. I believe nothing replaces the value of personally interacting with my clients and providing service beyond normal expectations. Our agency prioritizes long-term relationships over just transactions – a philosophy that is helping us to quickly grow operations.
Education & Experience
After graduating from San Diego State University, I started in the insurance industry with Allstate Insurance. In 1989, I found my passion in Underwriting at Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, as a Large Risk Underwriting Specialist. In 1994 I joined Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company (A company of Allianz Group) where I worked in increasingly responsible roles, including:
Regional Underwriting Leader over 30 Underwriters.
Chief Underwriting Officer leading Product and Underwriting.
Private Wealth Executive responsible for High-Net-Worth Product and Underwriting.
In 2013 I was hired by Nationwide Insurance Company as a Vice President of Underwriting helping launch a new Personal Lines Insurance business targeting Affluent individuals. During the 5 ½ years I was there, my team developed all products, processes, and underwriting standards. We filed our products in 30 states and grew the business to over $300M in Earned Premium.
Early in 2020 I decided to become an insurance agent, which enables me to use my years of experience to help people protect their personal and professional lives. Coupled with my extensive background in underwriting, I am now well-equipped to advise my clients on their risk management needs; navigate their application process; and secure the best possible outcome for them.
